Janne Liburd bid farewell on occasion of the Wadden Sea Board’s 42nd meeting
For more than 8 years, since 2015, Janne Liburd contributed to the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation as Member of its governing body, the Wadden Sea Board (WSB). In her function as appointed Chairperson to the Danish Wadden Sea National Park Board, she was part of the Danish Delegation to the Cooperation. On the eve of the Board’s 42nd meeting, on 22 November 2023 in Wilhelmshaven, CWSS as well as the Wadden Sea Board Members, Advisors, and Staff bid her farewell and thanked her for the contributions on the past years.
In her speech, the cultural anthropologist and sustainable tourism expert recalled the initial scepticism she encountered in the cooperation seeking the conservation of Wadden Sea nature. Liburd also talked about the concepts of collaboration and stewardship forming the base of the Trilateral Cooperation, giving space to overcome differences and evolve. At the end of her term, she resumes: “I am pleased to have contributed to the Wadden Sea family, and what I will describe as a movement from primarily being as longstanding cooperation between states, to also encompassing collaboration between Wadden Sea partners.”
Her successor, Flemming Just, new Chairperson of the Danish National Park and hence Member to the Wadden Sea Board, was also present and picked up her tasks at the following day’s meeting. Janne Liburd’s entire speech can be found annexed to the WSB42 document list.
