+++ Please note that the ITB 2020 has been cancelled +++
The German-Dutch INTERREG V A "Wadden Sea Agenda" funding project will be presented on a cross-border joint stand on the Wadden Sea World Heritage at the ITB 2020 in Berlin. Stand 227 in Hall 4.1 is being realised within the framework of the INTERREG project "Prowad Link" together with Dutch, Danish and German Wadden Sea residents and the British Wash & North Norfolk coast. The exhibition stand will present examples of sustainable tourism and offer a platform for exchange on cross-border cooperation on the Wadden Sea World Heritage. In addition to the project presentation, the Wadden-Agenda 2.0 presents solutions for sustainable mobility in the Wadden Sea region and takes up the topic of waste avoidance with a new gamification app. The ITB runs from 4 to 8 March 2020 and is considered the world's largest leading trade fair for the travel industry.
"The close cooperation with the other Wadden Sea countries is extremely important for our work. At the joint exhibition stand, we benefit from the professional exchange with other players in the Wadden-Agenda 2.0. At the same time, we have the opportunity to present our ideas for sustainable tourism to a broad public. We want to show how the protection and the experience of this unique natural area can be brought into harmony with each other", explains Imke Wemken, CEO of Ostfriesland Tourism GmbH as lead partner of the INTERREG V A-project.
In addition to the joint exhibition stand, the Wadden-Agenda 2.0 is also participating in the 15th Pow-Wow of the ITB for tourism professionals on the Adventure Stage in Hall 4.1 directly next to the Wadden Sea stand. On 6 March 2020, Dr. Johannes Theissen from the company team red Germany GmbH will present the results of a new study commissioned by the Wadden-Agenda 2.0 on the topic of sustainable mobility within the Wadden Sea area. The study is to support the targeted implementation of sustainable mobility concepts.
In a further presentation Oliver Knagge, Online Marketing Manager of Ostfriesland Tourism GmbH, will introduce the new app "Wadden-Games" on Friday, 06 March 2020. With the game app, children and young people in particular are introduced to the waste problem at the Wadden Sea World Heritage in a playful way and sensitized. By using storytelling, the players are addressed particularly emotionally and thus develop a strong awareness of the issues of waste avoidance and protection of the Wadden Sea. In the Chill Lounge on the exhibition stand, there are tablets available for visitors to test the app for themselves in a relaxed atmosphere.
About the Wadden-Agenda 2.0
The German-Dutch INTERREG V A "Wadden-Agenda 2.0" funding project has been working on sustainable tourism on the World Heritage Wadden Sea since October 2018. The project has a funding volume of 1.7 million euros and runs until 2022. The cross-border project focuses on sustainable and appreciative tourism. Among other things, the reduction of environmental pollution in the Wadden Sea natural area plays an important role in the eight different work packages. The issue of accessibility is also taken up. The aim is to enable people with disabilities to access the World Heritage. All information on the project is available on the new bilingual website www.watten-agenda.de and www.wadden-agenda.nl. The project area stretches from the Dutch coast of the provinces of Fryslân and Groningen via East Frisia to the Weser on the German side and also includes the maritime inland area. This project is funded within the INTERREG programme by the European Union and the INTERREG partners.
