New national research into the awareness of UNESCO World Heritage shows that once again the Wadden Sea is the best-known World Heritage Site in the Netherlands.

From 28 to 30 October 2025, more than 200 scientists from Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands gathered in Groningen for the 16th International Scientific Wadden Sea Symposium.

The event strengthened collaboration and enhanced impactful communication approaches in digital outreach in support of protecting the Wadden Sea.

On 28-30 January over 40 stakeholders of the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site from Denmark and Germany paid a visit to their Dutch colleagues.

On 5 and 6 September 2024, the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation welcomed a delegation from Laos and Vietnam, who wanted to learn about various aspects of working together for a transboundary World Heritage Site.

2024 marks the 15th anniversary of the Wadden Sea's designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a celebration of shared responsibility and commitment to preserving one of the world's most precious natural wonders.

“Overcoming borders, discovering new horizons” was the title of this year's annual conference of the German and Swiss World Heritage Associations and the German and Swiss UNESCO Commissions.

The Wadden Sea World Heritage Site, a site of unparalleled natural beauty and significance, is a contender for German National Tourist Board competition for the most esteemed landmarks.

The educational programme offers an in-depth exploration of ecology, nature conservation, sustainable development, and management, specifically centered around the unique ecological context of the Wadden Sea.
